Christine Stankard Kressley, Artistic Director of the newly established Stankard Studio, has designed an intricately sculpted Cornflower paperweight. Under the mastery of international studio glass artist, Paul Stankard, Stankard Studio continues the American paperweight tradition. Growing up surrounded by art, Christine enjoyed many nature hikes with her father. After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from LaSalle University and than working in the museum world for five years, Christine began working with her father in his Mantua, New Jersey studio in 1990. The Cornflower paperweight builds on the Stankard tradition of botanical illusions poetically encased in crystal. The Cornflower’s blossom is a complex grouping of tubular florets accented with graduating degrees of blue and purple glass. Originally native to Europe, the Cornflower now can be found in abundance in American cornfields. Christine Stankard Kressley's Honeysuckle Paperweight, is her second design in the Stankard Studio Edition. The elegantly curved stamens reach out from the long tubular blossoms balanced delicately on the vine. The buds and black berries, give the viewer the promise of botanical renewal.
